Support Israel?

November 17th, 2004  |  Published in Religion

“Many Christians believe that Genesis 12:3 requires them to support Zionist [=Israeli] causes and to rejoice over every ‘Israeli advance’ in the world, failing to realize as they do so (1) that as long as they encourage the Jew to continue to hold this unbiblical perception of what constitues ‘Jewishness’ and (2) that as long as the Jew continues to hold to Judasim as his religion, just so long will he continue to reject him [Jesus Christ] who is the only hope of Israel.”

NPR : Abercrombie & Fitch Settles Discrimination Suit

Clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch agrees to pay $50 million to settle lawsuits claiming it discriminates against minorities and women. The company was accused of favoring white men in its hiring and branding. Abercrombie will create an office of diversity and has already hired a vice president for diversity.

So should we sue companies in Japan that have all japanese models? They should have at least 19.3% caucasion and 17.2% blacks and 14% hispanics!!

John Murray on Salvation and Grace

November 17th, 2004  |  Published in Religion

“In salvation we must not so emphasize grace that we overlook the salvation itself.  The concept of salvation involves what we are saved to as well as what we are saved from.  We are saved to holiness and good works (see Eph. 2:10).  And holiness manifests itself in good works.”

Wired News: ‘Music Is Not a Loaf of Bread’

Wilco’s front man Jeff Tweedy explains it like it is.

A piece of art is not a loaf of bread. When someone steals a loaf of bread from the store, that’s it. The loaf of bread is gone. When someone downloads a piece of music, it’s just data until the listener puts that music back together with their own ears, their mind, their subjective experience. How they perceive your work changes your work.

Treating your audience like thieves is absurd. Anyone who chooses to listen to our music becomes a collaborator.

People who look at music as commerce don’t understand that. They are talking about pieces of plastic they want to sell, packages of intellectual property.

I’m not interested in selling pieces of plastic.

The True Story of Audion

Worth the read if you’re cool—er, I mean a nerd. I keep getting those two things mixed up.

Since we never met up because we were tangled with AOL, Apple turned to their next choice, SoundJam, and the rest was, well, history. Another one of those amazing “life junctions” you’ll always wonder about — what if we had made iTunes? Would we be happy? Would we be having as much fun? Would we be, er, rich?

Discerning Reader: Page Not Found

It is better this way, I think, but a sad case indeed.

Update: Looks like they are only down for a bit. Take a look at Aaron’s comment quoting their email.
