Grenz and McLaren were personally related to each other. McLaren himself referred to Grenz as having been his mentor. And it was Grenz who coined the phrase "generous orthodoxy" which eventually McLaren has made so popular. Beyond this, they share the same view on key worldview issues, esp. on epistemology.

Grenz and McLaren seem to put themselves together. They taught a seminar on Scripture together at the Emergent Convention in San Diego this February. McLaren often points to Grenz for his theology. They are both Emergent and both post-conservative.

The books deals with McLaren and Grenz, which is why I mentioned them both together.

I think you have made the mistake of making the "emerging church" and "postconservative theology" as synonomous. They are not. McLaren is a much different catageory than Grenz. Anyone who has read their works seeking to understand their positions (not misrepresent them like Carson does with Grenz) should be able to make this distinction.
