Andrew Keen on Web 2.0

I found this lecture by Andrew Keen very interesting about “Web 2.0,” general media literacy, the need for gatekeepers, etc. I loved his phrase “Twittering ourselves to death.”

What on earth? Libertarians… “people with no respect for any kinds of authority.”

This gentleman seems like a sophist, and a curmudgeon.

I’m not so sure. He is critiquing Web 2.0 culture, which is certainly libertarian. He is arguing that there needs to be authority, not just a democratic web. I think I agree with him there — pure democracy is chaos. That’s why we’re a Republic — and why democracies crash.

Anyway, I found him interesting and a breath of fresh air — most people drink the kool-aid and don’t think about this sort of stuff.
