In our time a beard is the one thing a woman cannot do better than a man, or if she can her success is assured only in a circus.
–John Steinbeck, Travels with Charley in Search of America (1962), p. 32

Being a man who has had a pretty awesome beard for the last 5 years of my life — save a few sporadic months — I laughed out loud reading that in Travels.
On a side note, Travels with Charley… cemented Steinbeck as my favorite author. Such amazingly simple, profound, and brilliant insights into America and it’s inhabitants.
P.S. - I’m digging the redesign.

Thanks for the kind comments on the redesign!
I really like Steinbeck as well. _East of Eden_ was what made me appreciate him. I enjoyed _Travels_ and am looking forward to reading more of him.
