Great write. I would like to add one point as to the affect of news: It mangles the senses to our responsibility in the now. It makes a man more concerned with Bush’s political maneuvering than with his neighbor’s. I live in Portland, OR where news (whether the Willamette Weekly sort or the mainstream Oregonian) is the road map for peace. Only peace looks like anger and cynicism. Everyman’s conspiracy can be supported by the news.

Great point. If I had talked about the biases and consequences of news, the essay would have been much different!
