Two lovers sit on a bench eating ice cream.
Girl: “Did you just call me Kathy?”
Guy: “I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to.”

Hmm… witness protection program? I hope? ;)
Actually, I’ve had discussions like this with my wife before. Her name is Nicole, and she hates being called “Nikki.” (She also considers it a moral failing of the highest magnitude for someone to insert an “h” in her name.) Added to the mix are that (a) we first met on Joshua Harris’ old message board, where she went by the pseudonym “Martie Anne,” and (b) at that time she didn’t like her first name, so for a few months she went by her middle name. One day this exchange occurred:
Nicole: I love you, Travis.
Travis: I love y…ou.
She didn’t know whether to be offended or to think it was cute. :)
